Marc Gillespie, age 55, Rochester, NY. Founder of Forge Racing. Started paddling in 1973 and have done so continuously since except for a 10 year hiatus from 1983-1993. I have always raced the most competitive class I could find and paddle bow, stern, C-1, men's, mixed, adult/youth, war canoe and a few scattered kayak races. I'm a firm believer in all around paddler development including technique, strength, endurance and the mental aspects involved. pdfmg@aol.com |

Emily Wright, age 20, lives part of the year kayaking at Olympic Training Center in San Diego, CA, and also lives part of the year in Rochester, NY. Started paddling kayaks in 2002; raced marathon kayaks from 2002- 2004 and then added sprint kayaking to the mix from 2005- present. Started canoeing in 2007, primarily in the stern paddling mixed, but also dabbling in women's c2 and c1 races. I'm looking to improve my canoeing all-around, and also go to the 2012 Olympics for sprint kayaking. I'm a firm believer in Marc Gillespie and Forge Racing. I am a DIRECT product of Marc, Holly, and Jason's patient and effective coaching. They taught me everything I know, starting when I was just 14 years old, and I'm sure will continue to teach me much more in the coming years. emily.mary.wright@gmail.com |

Bob Rapant lives in Pittsfield MA. Started paddling at age 8. Currently 44 years old. Same birthday and date (1964) as Dale Persons (I think). Paddling mostly bow and C-1 with some K-1 thrown in for good measure. Believes in the basis for successful racing is fun first, technique second, endurance, then strength. “If you miss a stroke or take a bad stroke in practice or a race, you can never get it back”. When doing sprints, intervals or grind work outs in a training session it is important to seek out suck water for maximum training effect. bob@adirondackpayroll.com |

Matt Rudnitsky, age 21, lives in Cortland, NY. Started racing in 2002. I mainly race in the stern but go fast in any kind of boat, wherever I'm sitting (c1, Bow, Stern, war canoe). I've done all three of the triple crown races and believe a good training regimen coupled with rest is the key to success. mrudnit1@ithaca.edu |

Jeff Rankinen: Stern paddler, age 45, 135 lbs. Also race C1, adult/junior, mixed and outrigger. Live in Jersey Shore, PA. Help organize the Tiadaghton Elm Classic Canoe & Kayak race held in June. For me, skill in wake riding and boat control makes up for a lack of strength in C1. In C2, I think timing with your partner is the first priority when training on the water. Increasing strength is one of my goals for 2009. jrankin@pct.edu |

Steve Rankinen, from Williamsport Pa. I've been racing as long as I can remember. I paddle c-2, bow and stern but I am most comfortable in the c-1. What I like most about racing canoe's is riding wake. When I train, proper paddling technique is #1 priority. rankinc1@verizon.net |

| Ron Kaiser, Williamsport, Pa RKAYAK63@aol.com. I've been racing at the National level since 1987 and have dabbled in C-1's, done quite well in C-2's and today pretty much specialize in kayaks and Surfski's. I spend a great deal of training time in my V-10 acting as a pace boat for Steve Rankinen in his C-1 and that has improved both of us in the process. As I get older and hopefully wiser, I'm always looking to compensate for the inevitable effects of aging by paddling smarter and improving my technique. |
