Amateur Canoe Points Changes

Due to the incredibly low participation of the amateur points series the past few years, the Board Members have decided to try changing the amateur points season this year.  The C-2 Stock system will remain exactly the same, as we do seem to have fairly decent participation in these classes.

For the amateur c-2 classes we have decided to eliminate the age groups.  All age classes will start together in the C2 classes, after that, points will be given individually based on placement.  1st place will be 50 points, 2nd place 49 points, 3rd place 48 points and so on.  Points will be given on an individual basis (as long as BOTH paddlers are NYMCRA members).  At the end of the year, the prizes will be given for C-2 MAN and C-2 WOMAN.  You will individually accumulate points towards the prize for your gender. At the end of the year, prizes will be given for the top three males in the C2 category, and the top three females; whether they raced, mens, womens or mixed.

For Instance:

Points series #1.

John Doe and Jane Doe - 1st place mixed

Molly McGee and Polly Partridge - 1st place womans

Points series race #2

John Doe and Polly Partridge - 2nd Place mixed

Molly McGee and Dan Doolittle - 3r place mixed

Points Tabulation:

John Doe 99 points toward men’s championship

Jane Doe 49 points toward woman’s championship

Molly McGee 98 points towards woman’s championship

Dan Doolittle 48 points towards men’s championship

The idea:  This will allow for people to race with whomever they want and still participate in the points series.  Hopefully this will make it more competitive.

C-1 Amateur, we would like to eliminate the 50-59 age group.  This year the C-1 amateur, both men and women, age groups will be

under 60

60-69

and 70 plus

What this means for race directors:

You may still award your prizes for your race however you see fit, HOWEVER, for us to tabulate the points for your races, we ask that you start ALL C2 woman together, ALL C2 mixed together, and ALL C2 mens together.  Points will be distributed separately for the three different groups, they may start together if that is what you would like, however we can not have starts with differing ages because this will not be fair during points tabulation.

Also different this year, there will only be 7 races, best 5 out of 7 will count towards your points tabulation.  These races will be:

USPP

Canton

Madrid

Electric City

Armond Basset

Saranac Flatwater Challenge

Newcomb

Dates and details to follow.
